Get it in CreatinelyHow the cost is calculated
The calculator works from four numbers: tub price, tub size in grams, grams per serving and servings per day.
- Price per gram = tub price ÷ tub grams
- Cost per serving = price per gram × grams per serving
- Cost per month = cost per serving × servings per day × 30.44
- Cost per year = cost per serving × servings per day × 365
- Tubs per year = grams per serving × servings per day × 365 ÷ tub grams
30.44 is the average number of days in a month (365.25 ÷ 12), so the monthly figure doesn't jump between 28 and 31 days.
The grams per serving are yours to enter. This tool doesn't recommend a dose. If you want a number, Creatinely suggests a daily amount based on your body weight.
A worked example
Two made-up tubs, compared with the same example serving of 4 g once a day (an example for the math, not a recommendation):
Tub | Price per gram | Per serving | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
500 g for $22 | $0.044 | $0.18 | $64.24 |
1 kg for $35 | $0.035 | $0.14 | $51.10 |
The bigger tub costs more up front but about $13 less over a year. With the 500 g tub you would buy about 3 tubs a year.
Comparing tubs fairly
- Compare by price per gram, not by price per tub. Shops often put the per-gram or per-kilo price on the label; if not, the calculator gives it to you.
- Check what one serving actually contains. Some products are blends, so a scoop of powder isn't the same as a scoop of creatine. Use the grams of creatine stated on the label.
- For capsules, multiply grams per capsule by capsules per serving.
- Add shipping and subtract discounts before you compare.
- Scoops are rarely exact. If a tub runs out sooner than expected, weigh one scoop on a kitchen scale and update the number.
What this tool doesn't do
It doesn't judge quality or purity, and price says nothing about either. Read the label and, if it matters to you, look for third-party testing. It also doesn't give health advice. If you have a medical condition or take medication, ask a doctor or pharmacist before starting any supplement.
Frequently asked questions
How much does creatine cost per month?
It depends on the tub price and how much you take. Divide the price by the tub grams, multiply by your daily grams and by about 30; the calculator does it for you.
Is a bigger tub of creatine cheaper?
Usually per gram, but not always. Compare the price per gram, and make sure you will finish the tub before its best-before date.
Are creatine capsules more expensive than powder?
Compare them by price per gram of creatine. Multiply the grams in one capsule by the number of capsules in the bottle, then divide the price by that total.
How many servings are in a 500 g tub?
Divide 500 by the grams you take per serving. The calculator also shows how many tubs you will use in a year.
